Artist - Bhupinder Singh Chaggar

Bhupinder Singh Chaggar is a renowned Tabla player based in Leeds, U.K.  He is one of the leading disciples of the renowned Tabla maestro and Gharanadar of the Benares gharana, Pandit Sharda Sahai Ji, who is the direct descendant of Pandit Ram Sahai Ji, the founder of this Gharana.  

His performances have been very well received and appreciated leaving audiences and musicians surprised at the standard attainable in this country.  He has accompanied some prominent artist of the Indian Classical genre including, Sri Dharambir Singh, Sri Kushal Das Ji, Smt. Purnima Chaudhari, Sri Snehashish Mazjumdar, H.H. Swami Gokul Utsav Ji Maharaj, Sri Anindya Banerjee, Dr. Rajeeb Chakraborty, Reena Shrivastav. He also had the great fortune playing two duet performances with his Guru Ji.  On the 5th April 2003, his Guru Ji bestowed the greatest honour a Guru can bless his disciple with by playing before a near full house in the Purcell Room, South Bank centre. Pt Ramesh Misra provided beautiful lehra for Bhupinder to perform a traditional Benares solo and then he sat with his Guru in the second half admiring the Maestro at work.  Later on that year, he played to the Tabla players and other musicians of Benares in Benares, India where he felt blessed and honoured that he had this opportunity.

He has also played cross-culturally with many different styles of music including, flamenco guitarist Eduardo Neibla, Portuguese percussion maestro Rui Junior, popular mainstream artists such as, soul singer Jocelyn Brown, mercury award nominee band, Black Star Liner, Dj’s of hip-hop/drum’n’bass backgrounds.
