Kamaljeet Ahluwalia is part of the new wave of British Asian musicians to hit the scene in recent years. A disciple of Ustad Harjinderpal Singh Ji and the legendary Santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, she uses her Indian classical roots to walk a new path and create new and interesting sounds on this rare and beautiful instrument.
Having working with a diverse array of artists from Guy Sigsworth, Mercury Music Award winner Talvin Singh, Fruit Tree, Universal Taal, Bombay Dub Orchestra and acclaimed dancer and choreographer Akram Khan to name a few, this innovative and imaginative musician is currently collaborating with guitarist Giuliano Modarelli on their new project One Hundred and Six Strings and breathing new life to a proud and ancient Indian classical tradition and with producer and musician Wayne Nunes from Warrior Charge. She has performed throughout the UK and internationally as part of the multi-art production Journey into India, group recitals as well many solo performances.
In addition to being a passionate musician Kamaljeet is also a talented artist and has had many group and solo exhibitions around the UK. Her paintings deal with the emotional content of music – specifically Indian classical music.
She was recently commission to make a new body of work for Himalayan Song as part of the acclaimed Sundance Film Festival, Utah, which is currently touring the USA.
