Artist - Rushia Uzmi (Dola)

Rushia, affectionately known as Dola, began learning dance at age 4.  She continued her training for 15 years in Bengali folk, Bollywood and Indian Classical dance. Building from these skills, she is now established as a creative choreographer as well as an inspiring teacher and a spectacular performer.

Rushia is highly experienced in delivering School and Community workshops she runs weekly classes at Yorkshire Dance Centre, and she also runs her own Dance group called Notraz. She is doing a lot of work for SAA-uk, Kala Sangam, Wise Move, Lost Dog Theatre Company, Music and the Deaf, Purobi Cultural Association, Stop Hate uk and many more.

Rushia also featured recently on ITV television show ‘My Yorkshire’ making her quite a celebrity within the region. In 2007 she was awarded £2000 by the Scarman Trust to develop Bengali Folk Dance in the local community.
