Learning & Participation - Bharatantyam Dance Classes

The SAA-uk Dance Academy runs for 30 weeks (Sept to July) across the academic year. It is fast becoming a UK centre of excellence for Bharatanatyam and Kathak training for adults and children aged 4 plus.

Developed and delivered by nationally renowned teachers, our classes offer the perfect environment to explore these two classical Indian dance forms in a supportive environment, as well as the opportunity to achieve ISTD qualifications, and perform at various cultural events across the region.

The origin of Kathak is traditionally attributed to the traveling bards of ancient northern India, known as Kathakars or storytellers. The term Kathak is derived from the Vedic Sanskrit word Katha meaning "story", and kathaka in Sanskrit means "he who tells a story", or "to do with stories".Wandering Kathakas communicated stories from the great epics and ancient mythology through dance, songs and music in a manner similar to early Greek theatre.

Classes taught by Santosh Menon, Ramya Tangirala and Aditi Sen
