It gave us great pleasure to introduce accomplished vocal artist Shaheen Khan and her fellow musicians Shahbaz Hussain on tabla and Kamalbir Singh on violin, in an evening of illuminating vocal traditions of South Asia with a focus on Urdu Poetry and song.
Born and raised in the UK, Shaheen is a prolific singer, theatre actor, radio presenter and vocal tutor; a highly versatile and accomplished artist with more than 5,000 live performances to her credit. She is renowned for her vast repertoire and delivers Punjabi Folk Songs, Urdu Ghazal and Hindi Geet with equal ease.
Shaheen has received training and guidance from Javed Iqbal Ghauri, (Karachi) Pt Suresh Wadalkar (Mumbai) Chandrima Mishra-ji, Baldev Mastana-ji, Chiranjib Chakraborty-ji (UK) and holds a first class degree in Indian Classical Music.
Her deep passion for Urdu and Punjabi Poetry enables her to articulate the meaning and the essence of this poetry, with such ease that the audiences of all backgrounds are able to engage her performances of poetry in song.
