Our original dance and musical production, Thread, will be performed on a special free event at the 41st Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.
Thread is the synthesis of sound, dance and light, bringing to life textiles and their history in Yorkshire.
From soft floating chiffon and smooth rich silks, to strong man-made fibres, Thread tells the stories of women and children who produced textiles in Yorkshire’s mills and factories. The piece shows how these workforces developed artistic expressions to hold onto their human spirit, while creating beautiful textiles for the masses.
During the weeks leading up to the performance, the SAA-uk artists will also work with young people from Kirklees to create a unique performance, exploring the hidden history of mills, the evolution of textiles and how they connect Britain with India pre-1947 through sound, music and dance.
Featuring: Jyoti Manral, Alex Delittle, Elizabeth Hanks, Keertan Rehal, Vijay Venkat
